Three Types of Support Between Spouses In Pennsylvania, other than child support, there are three types of support a spouse may be required to provide to another spouse. The divisions are based on the status of the case: before a divorce is filed, during litigation of a divorce, and after the entry of a divorce decree. The first type of support is Spousal Support, which can begin from the first separation of the parties. Spousal support is based on need and can be refused to a party who has been found guilty of fault, abandonment, cohabitation, abuse, etc. This is one of the few areas where fault is considered. Fault will not generally be considered in determining the amount of support.
